Engagement Stories—Jimmy + Colleen
We recently had the pleasure of designing a custom piece for Jimmy and Colleen. They visited our shop looking to create a custom engagement ring with her grandmother’s diamond. During her initial visit, Colleen tried on a variety of rings to help narrow down her style. She really loved champagne and peachy colors and was considering geometric shapes as well as pear shapes. During our design consultation, we narrowed down her favorites to a few champagne pear rose cut diamonds and decided on a Toi et Moi design to showcase her heirloom diamond alongside of her center stone. Colleen knew that she wanted to impart some unique elements to the design through the setting stye. We chose her top three setting preferences and her top two champagne diamonds and ended the consultation with Jimmy to do the final selections.
After the consultation, we worked with Jimmy to finalize her setting style and the top choice for the center stone. We loved his stone choice and the unique way they decided to set the diamonds. For the center stone, he chose a flat, rectangular prong setting and for their heirloom diamond, he chose a half bezel setting. The stones came together perfectly to create a ring that symbolizes the present and future of Jimmy and Colleen and pays tribute to their history.
Jimmy and colleen were so fun to design with and we loved how deeply they were both involved in the process offering their creative input into the piece. After their proposal, they were kind enough to share a bit of their insight on the design process with us.
One of our favorite questions that we like to ask our clients is if anything funny happened during the time they were keeping the ring/proposal a secret or how they kept the proposal a surprise (many of our clients design with us as a couple so the person receiving the ring is often along for some of the journey). Here’s what Jimmy had to say:
“Because we both went to the initial consultation, Colleen knew some details about the ring, but not many (including when and where I was going to propose). She was convinced that I was going to pick up the ring under the guise of going to the eye appointment on a random Tuesday a few months back, and texted her sisters and friends that she was SO giddy about me driving off to pick up the finished product. She kept this information from me until I recently proposed, but now I understand why she was so sad when I came back with a year's supply of contacts and a new pair of glasses that Tuesday.”
Thank you Jimmy and Colleen for taking the custom journey with us, we appreciate you so much!
