I had the pleasure of working with Glenn to create Eliot’s engagement ring recently. we worked long distance (Maryland to Chicago) to create her one–of–a–kind ring. When Glenn first reached out to me in 2017, we chatted about some design options. In the summer of 2018, he circled back, ready to begin designing a ring for Eliot.
It was especially exciting to receive a request to work with an Old European Cut Diamond. We’ve worked with a few that we have repurposed from client family jewelry into a new piece for them. I was looking forward seeing what our vendor who specializes in antique and post consumer diamonds had to show me. They sent a selection of unique EOC diamonds and Glenn settled on a diamond that I believed to be the most interesting and filled with character; a 0.67 GIA EOC brilliant cut with an open culet and and a slightly wonky (I say this with love) perimeter. There is a charm born of history in these old diamond cuts. Vintage diamonds aren’t for everyone but when you have been around modern diamonds for years, you yearn for that historical character.
We decided that a linear composition was best suited to Eliot’s style, using color to impart a bit of whimsy to the ring, but keeping it classic with clean lines, a round center diamond, and symmetry. Glenn and I explored designs in the peach/apricot/champagne family as well as green/blues. We settled on accents of Sri Lankan peach sapphires and champagne diamonds. The warmth of all of these colors with a vintage diamond all set in yellow gold was just the magic we were looking for. Glenn decided on the composition out of several selections that we worked through together and finalized the style in which he wanted the stones set.
Eliot of course said ‘yes’ when Glenn popped the question. Thank you Glenn and Eliot for including me in your story, I enjoyed working with you and am so thrilled that you both love the ring! Cheers to your future together, may it be a journey filled with love and beautiful memories.
